Swedish Black Hatching Eggs for Sale

Swedish Black hatching eggs are a good choice for poultry keepers who want to hatch a rare Swedish landrace with a distinctive appearance and a history worth preserving. Also known as Bohuslän-Dals Svarthöna, the Swedish Black Hen is recognized for its predominantly black plumage, dark skin, black legs and beak, and small body size. The breed is uncommon outside Scandinavia and remains a conservation concern.

About Swedish Black Hatching Eggs

Swedish Black hens produce cream-colored eggs rather than black eggs. Sources describe the eggs as relatively small to medium, with reported egg weights around 40–45 grams.

Hatching these eggs gives breeders the opportunity to raise Swedish Black chickens from the earliest stage. Since this is a landrace, individual chicks can show natural variation, so the exact appearance and traits of every chick cannot be guaranteed.

The breed’s dark pigmentation is one of its defining characteristics. When selecting young birds for a breeding flock, pigmentation is an important trait to observe as the chicks mature.

Why Choose Swedish Black Hatching Eggs?

Swedish Black chickens stand apart from ordinary black-feathered chickens. Their pigmentation can extend beyond the feathers to the skin, legs, comb and beak, giving the mature birds a distinctive appearance. Some birds can also show green or purple iridescence in their black feathers.

For breeders, the appeal goes beyond appearance. Swedish Black is a rare landrace, and conservation reports have classified the Bohuslän-Dals Black Chicken as endangered. Raising chicks from fertile hatching eggs can therefore be part of maintaining interest in a breed that remains uncommon.

What to Expect When Hatching Swedish Black Eggs

Hatching eggs require careful handling from collection through incubation. Fertility does not guarantee a successful hatch because development can be affected by egg condition, storage, handling, incubation conditions, and other factors.

The chicks should also be evaluated as they grow rather than judging the entire breeding potential of a bird immediately after hatch. Natural variation is present within this landrace, so not every chick will develop into an identical adult.

For anyone buying Swedish Black hatching eggs, the goal should be to raise healthy birds while paying attention to the characteristics that define the breed.

Swedish Black Hatching Eggs for Breeding

These eggs are suited to poultry keepers interested in building or expanding a Swedish Black breeding flock. The breed’s rarity makes careful selection especially useful when choosing future breeding birds.

As the chicks mature, breeders can observe pigmentation, body type, feathering, and overall development before deciding which birds are best suited for their flock.
