Black Spanish Turkey Hatching Eggs for Sale

Black Spanish turkey hatching eggs offer poultry keepers an opportunity to raise a traditional heritage turkey variety with a long history in American farming. Also known as Black Turkeys or Norfolk Blacks, these birds are recognized for their lustrous black plumage, often displaying a greenish metallic sheen in adulthood. The variety traces its history to turkeys taken from the Americas to Europe in the 1500s and later brought back to North America by European settlers.

For breeders and small farms interested in maintaining a heritage flock, hatching eggs provide a way to raise poults from the beginning and manage their early care. Availability, egg quantity, and breeding details should be confirmed before ordering.

About Black Spanish Turkey Eggs

Black Spanish turkeys are a recognized heritage variety valued for their historical background and distinctive appearance. According to The Livestock Conservancy, hens lay large eggs with shells ranging from pale cream to medium brown, often with spotting. The organization lists the variety on its conservation priority list under the name Black Turkey.

Egg appearance can vary between individual hens. Shell color alone does not confirm fertility, so eggs intended for incubation should come from a suitable breeding flock.

Why Choose Black Spanish Turkey Hatching Eggs?

Black Spanish turkey hatching eggs may suit poultry keepers who want to develop their own flock rather than purchase already-hatched poults.

Reasons to consider this variety include:

• Heritage breed history: Black Spanish turkeys have a long connection with early American poultry keeping.
• Distinctive adult plumage: Mature birds develop glossy black feathers that can show a greenish sheen.
• Flock development: Hatching eggs allow keepers to raise poults and select future breeding birds as they mature.
• Small-farm suitability: Heritage turkeys can be considered for farm flocks when their space, housing, feeding, and care needs can be met.

Hatching results depend on the condition of the eggs, fertility, storage before incubation, transport, and incubator management. No specific hatch rate should be assumed without reliable records from the breeder.

Preparing to Incubate Black Spanish Turkey Eggs

Successful incubation begins before the eggs enter the incubator. Use a clean, reliable incubator designed for poultry eggs, and check that its temperature and humidity readings are accurate.

General domestic turkey incubation guidance uses a period of about 28 days. Mississippi State University Extension lists approximately 99°F for a forced-air incubator, with humidity and turning managed according to the incubator setup and stage of development. These are general turkey guidelines, not a guarantee of results for every egg or flock.

For better preparation:

• Set up and test the incubator before placing eggs inside.
• Handle eggs gently and keep them in suitable conditions before incubation.
• Follow the incubator manufacturer’s instructions for turning, ventilation, and humidity.
• Monitor development through candling at appropriate stages.
• Prepare a warm, clean brooder with suitable feed and fresh water before poults hatch.

If eggs have been shipped, allow for the possibility that transport may affect hatchability. Follow the seller’s instructions for resting and setting shipped eggs, and avoid assuming every egg will develop.

Caring for Black Spanish Turkey Poults After Hatching

Newly hatched poults need a warm, dry, draft-free brooder and access to clean drinking water and appropriate turkey starter feed. Keep bedding dry and provide enough space for poults to move away from the heat source if they become too warm.

Observe their behavior regularly. Huddling together may indicate that they are cold, while avoiding the heat source and panting can indicate excessive warmth. Adjust the brooder as needed and seek experienced poultry or veterinary guidance if poults are weak, are not eating or drinking, or show signs of illness.

As they grow, provide secure housing, suitable outdoor space, shade, and protection from predators and severe weather.

Black Spanish Turkey Hatching Eggs: What to Confirm Before Ordering

Before purchasing, ask the seller about the number of eggs supplied, the breeding flock, collection and storage practices, shipping arrangements, and any fertility information they can support with records. Also confirm the seller’s policies for damaged shipments, replacements, and refunds.

Eggs should not be advertised as guaranteed to hatch. Even fertile eggs may fail to develop or hatch because of handling, transport, incubation conditions, or natural variation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do Black Spanish turkey eggs take to hatch?

Domestic turkey eggs generally take around 28 days to hatch. Actual timing can vary, so monitor development and follow suitable incubation guidance.

What color are Black Spanish turkey eggs?

The Livestock Conservancy describes Black Turkey eggs as large, with shells ranging from pale cream to medium brown and sometimes showing spots.

Are all Black Spanish turkey hatching eggs fertile?

No. Fertility depends on the breeding flock and other factors. Ask the seller whether fertility has been checked and what supporting information is available.

Will every egg hatch into a Black Spanish turkey poult?

No hatch can be guaranteed. Results depend on egg fertility, handling, shipping, incubation conditions, and embryo development.

Do I need an incubator to hatch these eggs?

An incubator is one option. A suitable broody turkey hen may also incubate eggs, provided she has a safe nesting area and appropriate care. Either method requires suitable conditions for successful development.

What should I prepare before the eggs hatch?

Prepare a clean brooder, a reliable heat source, dry bedding, clean water, and suitable turkey starter feed. Have the brooder ready before the expected hatch date.

Are Black Spanish turkeys a heritage variety?

Yes. Black Spanish is another name used for the Black Turkey, a heritage variety recognized by the American Poultry Association in 1874.
