Giant White Turkeys for Sale

Giant White Turkey for Sale are large domesticated turkeys known for their white plumage, broad bodies, and substantial breast development. They are associated with modern turkey production, where breeding has emphasized body size, growth, and meat yield.

The name “Giant White” can describe large white-feathered turkeys from different breeding lines. Their mature size, growth rate, and reproductive characteristics therefore depend on their genetic background and management.

At Rookcrest Livestock, we help customers explore specialty poultry and understand the needs of the birds they choose. If you are considering Giant White Turkeys for your farm or poultry program, their size, housing requirements, and breeding background are important factors to consider.

Appearance and Characteristics

Giant White Turkeys have predominantly white feathers, a broad body, a developed breast, and a large overall frame. Like other domestic turkeys, they have a bare head and neck, with skin that can show red, bluish, or pale tones.

Their white plumage distinguishes them from black, bronze, and other darker-feathered varieties. White feathers can also leave less noticeable pin-feather marks on a processed carcass than darker feathers.

Body shape and feather characteristics vary with the breeding line. When choosing birds, consider their health, movement, leg structure, and body condition as well as their size and appearance.

History of Large White Turkeys

The development of large white turkeys reflects changes in American poultry production during the twentieth century. Breeders increasingly selected birds for rapid growth, breast development, efficient meat production, and a consistent appearance.

White-feathered commercial types became particularly important because their plumage was desirable for processing. The Broad Breasted White eventually became the dominant type in large-scale turkey production.

Giant White Turkeys should therefore be understood in the context of modern turkey breeding rather than automatically treated as a single traditional heritage breed. If lineage or breed identity matters to your project, ask the breeder for specific information about the birds’ background.

Size and Growth

Giant White Turkeys are selected or marketed for substantial body size, but their mature weight can vary considerably. Males generally grow larger than females, and final size depends on genetics, sex, age, nutrition, health, and management.

Instead of relying on a single weight figure for all Giant White Turkeys, ask about the specific breeding line and the age and sex of the birds being offered.

Larger body size also brings practical responsibilities. Birds need sufficient space, suitable nutrition, appropriate flooring, and regular observation to ensure they can move comfortably as they grow.

Giant White Turkey Eggs

Turkey hens lay eggs that are generally cream-colored to light brown and may have small speckles. Egg production varies with the hen’s age, genetics, nutrition, daylight, health, and management.

Large commercial-type turkeys have primarily been selected for meat production, so their reproductive performance should not be assumed to match that of traditional heritage varieties.

If you are interested in hatching eggs, ask about the parent flock, fertility history, and egg-handling practices. Fertile eggs need appropriate collection, storage, and incubation conditions, and successful hatching cannot be guaranteed.

Raising Giant White Turkey Poults

Poults need careful attention during their first weeks of life. A suitable brooding area should provide appropriate warmth, dry bedding, clean drinking water, a complete turkey starter feed, and good ventilation without cold drafts.

Keep the brooder clean and ensure that all poults can reach their feed and water. As the birds grow, increase their available space and monitor their development, appetite, and movement.

Young turkeys should move into larger housing or outdoor areas gradually, when their condition, feathering, and weather conditions make the transition appropriate. Protection from predators and damp conditions remains important throughout their development.

Temperament and Handling

Temperament can vary between individual birds and breeding lines. Calm, consistent handling can help turkeys become accustomed to routine farm management, but their behavior should not be assumed from their name or size alone.

When selecting birds for a breeding flock, consider health, body structure, leg strength, growth, temperament, and reproductive suitability together. A large bird should still be able to stand and move comfortably.

Monitor flock interactions and provide enough room to reduce competition around feeders, drinkers, and resting areas.

Housing and Outdoor Management

Giant White Turkeys need housing that accommodates their size. Provide enough space for standing, walking, resting, feeding, and drinking without unnecessary crowding. Dry bedding, suitable footing, ventilation, and protection from severe weather are important.

Outdoor access can provide additional room for movement when the birds and conditions are suitable. However, very heavy commercial-type birds may not range or forage as effectively as lighter heritage varieties. Monitor mobility and body condition when managing larger birds outdoors.

A well-managed enclosure should include secure fencing, shade, clean water, shelter, and predator protection. Pasture can complement a complete ration but should not replace balanced nutrition.

Breeding Giant White Turkeys

The suitability of Giant White Turkeys for breeding depends on their particular line and physical characteristics. Do not assume that every large white turkey can reproduce naturally or will have the same fertility.

When selecting breeding stock, consider:

• Overall health and body condition
• Sound legs and feet
• Comfortable movement
• Appropriate body structure
• Feather condition
• Temperament
• Reproductive history, where known

Selecting birds on size alone can overlook important health and reproductive traits. Keep records of parentage, growth, and breeding outcomes to help you assess your flock over time.

If you intend to maintain a particular commercial or specialty line, ask the breeder about its background and breeding goals before purchasing.
