Pavlovskaya Hatching Eggs for Sale

Pavlovskaya Hatching Eggs for Sale are a good choice for poultry keepers who want to hatch one of Russia’s rare and distinctive chicken breeds.

The Pavlovskaya is known for its crest, beard, muffs, feathered legs, and spangled plumage. Gold and silver varieties are commonly described, with gold being especially well known. The breed is also valued for its hardiness, active nature, and historical importance.

At Rookcrest Livestock, Pavlovskaya hatching eggs are intended for customers who want to raise their own birds and develop a flock from the incubation stage.

Why Choose Pavlovskaya Hatching Eggs?

Hatching eggs give you the opportunity to experience the breed from the beginning.

Instead of purchasing mature birds, you can incubate the eggs, raise the chicks, and watch their distinctive characteristics develop as they grow.

Pavlovskaya chickens are relatively uncommon, and their limited egg production can make hatching eggs less readily available than eggs from common backyard breeds. Some breeders report seasonal availability because Pavlovskaya hens have a relatively short laying season.

About the Pavlovskaya Chicken

The Pavlovskaya originated in Russia and is one of the country’s oldest chicken breeds.

Its history extends back several centuries, although the exact origins of the breed are not fully documented. The breed became well known in Russia during the 18th and 19th centuries before declining severely during the 20th century.

Russian poultry breeders later worked to restore the Pavlovskaya using surviving birds, historical descriptions, artwork, and other records. The breed remains uncommon today.

Pavlovskaya Hatching Egg Characteristics

Pavlovskaya eggs are relatively small compared with eggs from many modern production breeds.

Breed references describe the shell as white to light cream, with some sources also describing lightly tinted eggs. The Russian Poultry Breeders Association lists egg weights around 46–55 grams, while an Aviculture-Europe breed standard gives a minimum hatching-egg weight of 48 grams.

Typical characteristics include:

• White to light cream shell
• Relatively small to medium egg
• Around 48 grams or more for hatching eggs under one published standard
• Suitable for incubation when properly selected and handled

Pavlovskaya Hatching Eggs for Incubation

Successful incubation begins with properly handled eggs.

For the best chance of a successful hatch, select clean, normally shaped eggs from suitable breeding birds. Avoid cracked or heavily soiled eggs.

Eggs should be handled carefully and stored under appropriate conditions before incubation. Once incubation begins, maintain the temperature, humidity, ventilation, and turning schedule recommended for your incubator.

Pavlovskaya chicks may hatch around the normal chicken incubation period, although some breeders report that certain Pavlovskaya chicks benefit from an additional day in the hatcher.

What to Expect From Pavlovskaya Chicks

Pavlovskaya chicks may not show the full appearance of an adult bird immediately.

As they mature, the breed’s defining features become more noticeable, including:

• Head crest
• Beard
• Muffs
• Feathered legs
• Distinctive spangled plumage

When selecting future breeding birds, these characteristics can be evaluated as the birds develop.

Pavlovskaya Gold and Silver Varieties

The two commonly recognized color varieties are Gold and Silver.

Gold Pavlovskayas have a golden background with dark spangling, while Silver birds have a lighter silver-white background with contrasting markings.

Both varieties have the characteristic crest, beard, muffs, and feathered legs that make the Pavlovskaya immediately recognizable.

Pavlovskaya Chicken Characteristics

Pavlovskayas are small, active chickens.

Published breed references place mature hens around 1.2–1.5 kg and roosters around 1.7–1.9 kg, although individual birds can vary.

They are active foragers and are known for their alert nature. Their heavy feathering and Russian origins are also associated with good cold tolerance.

Their unusual appearance is one of the main reasons poultry keepers seek them out.

Why Raise Pavlovskaya Chickens?

Pavlovskayas can be a good fit for poultry keepers interested in:

• Rare chicken breeds
• Heritage poultry
• Ornamental chickens
• Breeding projects
• Small flock collections
• Hatching and raising chicks
• Preserving uncommon poultry genetics

They are not primarily a high-production egg breed. Their appeal comes from their distinctive appearance, history, hardiness, and rarity.

Pavlovskaya Hatching Eggs at Rookcrest Livestock

Rookcrest Livestock focuses on rare and specialty poultry for customers who want birds with distinctive characteristics.

Pavlovskaya hatching eggs offer a way to start with the breed at its earliest stage. Once hatched, the chicks can be raised and evaluated as they develop their crest, beard, feathered legs, and characteristic plumage.

Because Pavlovskaya hens are not high-volume layers and availability can be seasonal, hatching eggs may not be available continuously throughout the year.

For customers planning an incubation project, availability should be confirmed before ordering.
